Cute or what??

My blog friend Jane had this photo up and suggested that others pass it around. No problem Jane! How coud anyone resist this little guy? He is soooooo sweet! Wish I could reach out and pick him up for a cuddle.

I have a busy day coming up and not a lot of time to spare for the computer. It's soggy outside here in NS today with fog hanging around. The rain seems to be stopped, for the moment anyway, and the winds have died down. The winds certainly blew through the night . . . . so much in fact that as Heather came downstairs this morning she was mumbling "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore." Her bedroom is one of the two facing south so she heard it the worst; while on the north side the master bedroom was in the lee and we had the patio door partly open all night to let in some fresh air. I had filled the wood furnace around 3PM and then the temp went up. Whew! Was like being in OZ last night! {g}

I'm off . . . . but will return again soon. In the meanwhile I hope you enjoy the beauty of these roses that my stepfather-in-law grows beside his backstep. This is a picture taken last July here in LA.

Christmas Day in LA

Yes . . . . this was Christmas Day in LA. No, it's not Los Angeles, CA. This is Lower Argyle, Nova Scotia and I snapped this photo at Camp Cove Wharf in the sunny afternoon while standing at the edge of the parking lot. The couple of closer land masses are islands and the stretch of land on the horizon between them is part of the mainland that jots out as a peninsula. It was a very peaceful and calm day . . . . just what the doctor would have ordered . . . . yet it wasn't all peace and calm for me. I've been having a bit of trouble with my meds and have been experiencing some 'spells' . . . for lack of a better word. Shortly after taking this picture and a few others I spent the afternoon back at the house waiting for the spell to subside. I have an appointment with my neurologist in Halifax on the 12th of January ( as long as a snowstorm doesn't keep us at home ) so we'll see what happens from there. In the meantime I have cut my meds ( Sinemet) down to where I am feeling a bit better and may have to discontinue them altogether. At least for a while. There has also been added stress in my life, which is no doubt contributing to my problems. My DH has been laid off from his work as a marine electronics technician as we are experiencing a 'down turn' in the fishing industry in this area. We are trying to trust God that this is a change in our lives that is needed at this time, and keep praying that something will be just around the corner.

As the afternoon wore on and I began to feel better, Shel suggested that we go for a ride up to Argyle Head ( I can see folks grabbing for their maps of Nova Scotia now {g} ..... ) and see if any deer are out shortly before dark. And they were! Gorgeous creatures . . . . having their late afternoon Christmas meal. That patch of snow near them was about the largest size of any snow patch that I saw still around after the last snowfall. So far this has been a mild season; however, that could change quickly. These four were munching away on the late grasses left in this old pasture and were not overly concerned at our presence as we stopped the Jeep and shut off the engine while the photo opts presented themselves.

On Christmas morning Shel, Heather and I had attended the lovely morning service at the Argyle-Pubnico Baptist church with other family members and friends. We had also been in attendance at the very calming and beautiful Candlelight service at the Yarmouth Wesleyan church (sorry . . . . can't locate their website addy right now. Pastor Jim will forgive me. He's that kind of man.) on Christmas Eve. Family members and friends gathered there as well.

I sincerely hope that all my blog friends, and anyone else who happens along here, had a blessed Merry Christmas.

Calming tea

In the midst of all the hurriedness,
When my coffee cup screams at me,
I'll put his hot little fire out,
And serve myself up a calming tea!

. . . . and I will remember . . . .

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

Not quite another 'perfect storm'

But it sure seemed bad enough to be classed that way to me! What a wild night we've been through here on the southern tip of Nova Scotia, Canada! Gene called me around 7:30 last evening as they headed in from where they are lobstering (it's a four to five hour steam offshore) and reported that it was rough going, and slow, and that they had already experienced plenty of miserable weather, even hail that came at them sideways! At that time they were at German Banks and steaming at 7 knots so it was still going to be a long night plowing their way through a rough ocean. Before we ended our conversation, which kept getting interrupted due to what Gene termed as 'a bad connection, Mom!' he said that they were now getting lightning. Within twenty minutes Gene's lightning was here with us and things were furious and loud as the two fronts collided overhead. When the weather is really bad like this we leave a drift of snow to the left of the back door so that Dream doesn't have to go far to do her duties and can duck right back inside afterwards. As Shel opened the door and gave a tug on her leash to urge her forward she impersonated a mule with a most stubborn will! I know she thought her Daddy had taken leave of his senses. He wanted her to go out there?! Had he been hit by a lightning strike and no one noticed?! Superior strength overcame Basenji (mule) will and duties were taken care of in split second timing! Whew! Glad that's done until tomorrow morning, but nights aren't long here at Wine Brook Cottage. The new day began with Gene's arrival home shortly after 3AM. A hugh weight is lifted from our hearts and minds and two silent thankful prayers wing Heavenward as we hear his truck turn into the driveway and the beam of his headlights shine through the bedroom curtains and onto the walls signalling the safe return of our resident sailor. There is no feeling of annoyance at the clamor in the kitchen as he makes himself a chicken sandwich snack and the TV in the family room is turned on. It will soon be time for Shel to get up and head out on the tractor in order to get an early start to the snowplowing and it's close enough to my usual rising time so I'll join my DH and DS for a short chat before one drifts off to sleep and the other bundles up and heads out the door. Thank You Lord . . . . I whisper as my day begins . . . . Thank You!

A recent find

This doily was one of my most recent finds. It seems to be a combination of blue and black cross stitching and backstitching on linen. Just the one corner has work on it but the little tassels are on all four corners. I have no idea what this may be called. Anyone?

The picture of Dream in the snow is the one that I was trying to put up with yesterday's posting. You'll have to go between the two postings in order to read and view. As you can plainly see Blogger and I have been disagreeing over the photos again so I am posting this as is. I don't have time today to sit around and argue the point. Put the photos where you want to for this post Mr. Blogger. Cyalater . . . .

Another change . . . . .

. . . . . . and more to come . . . . . The ground was bare here yesterday and shortly after daylight it started 'spitting' snow. At least that's the term we always used to use for it. Hard to say what term some weatherman has come up with for it nowadays. Oh well . . . . . More snow has piled up on top of what arrived yesterday and as it was the light, fluffy stuff around the middle of the afternoon Dream and I went outside for a romp. I was hoping to post a picture of Dream in the snow but it seems that Blogger has decided to block my attempt. Will have to try later. In order to be able to have both hands free to hold the camera steady I loop Dream's rope around my middle. It works for what I had in mind and I also have the bonus of losing an inch or two off my waist when she plunges forward. Unfortuantely, those inches reappear when the strain is lessened but I do get to breath normally again. {gg}
