Success!

Blogger and I are on friendly terms this morning. Isn't that lovely?! :-)

Here they are . . . . my two girls examining the contents of a wicker basket. In truth, Dream isn't really that much of a hindrance. She is just curious about what is happening and for the most part will curl up beside me and snooze while I do any handwork. One yarn that she does find appealing for play though is Patons Cha Cha. Must be due to its fuzziness. I have started a second pair of socks for Shel and those are coming along well. I have some UFOs to get finished up also. Have been gathering a few treasures lately from some secondhand stores . . . . old hankies, old linens, and a lovely handmade shawl that Heather has been viewing with wide eyes and a special smile. :-) No pictures of these treasures yet but I'm thinking when the long winter days and evenings come along getting all that in order and sharing in the blog here would be a nice thing to do. I really do wander on this blog and have been thinking of perhaps getting another going just for my handwork and found treasures. We'll see. Until the next posting I'll leave you with this quote. "Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best." - Henry Van Dyke

the hinderance

Alright . . . . still no pictures . . . . I can take a hint Blogger. The pictures I was 'trying' to post were of Dream 'helping' Heather sort through a wicker basket of yarn. 'Maybe' you'll get to see them at a later date . . . . 'maybe' not . . . . . { shrugging} . . . .

As I sit here typing through the wee hours I'm listening to the winds howl around the house and envision what the ground will look like after sunrise in a few hours. A leaf covered earthscape . . . . . half-dressed trees and bushes . . . . leaves of many colours intermingled with the green and brown of the earth, and the occasional cheerful bright splash of summer bravely holding on . . . . beauty and gladness and sadness mixed . . . . as the remnants of summer make their final dance through the air. Time does not hold still . . . . . changes are an inevitable . . . . and though we, as human beings, would like to stop them at certain times in our lives to hold onto whatever or whoever is so dear to us right then, they slip through our lives and are gone . . . . . The dance of life is as the dance of the leaves going before the wind, of which you cannot see but can readily view his work . . . .

A better day . . . .

Shel's socks were finished last evening except for that final weaving to pull the toe together, so I did that early this morning and here they are . . .

I didn't win or place in the sock contest mentioned in my last posting that Jane offered but that's okay. I did get a thank you hug and kiss, and a hugh smile! for this pair though from their appreciative owner, so you see there can be compensations in this creative world. He also sees how some days it can be a struggle to make those needles do what I want them to do when I am having a particularly difficult day. Yesterday was such a day. Now that reminds me that I had wanted to make mention here of a website that is helpful to me . . . . . http://www.restministries.org/ . . . . . and I'm certain could prove useful to many other chronic pain sufferers and their spouses. There is also a link to the Invisible Disabilities website I believe from Rest Ministries. Saija over at Thro' a Glass Darkly has been having a difficult time of it lately too and I would like to thank her for reminding me through her blog that I have to begin the day with God for my help and strength to make it. Others have been telling me too ( and you know who you are ), but I wasn't listening. Sometimes it takes a while for us to be still enough to hear. Did you ever wonder why God fashioned us with two ears and only one mouth?

Today appears to be shaping up to be a good day here. I can actually see the sun starting to peek through the clouds in the eastern sky. :-) In the middle of all the pain and confusion of the last couple of weeks, I have managed to take some nifty pictures and will no doubt be sharing some on here, but at a later date. One day I tried to do a second posting and put a picture with it and blogspot decided that picture should go along with my first posting of the day, so I had to delete the second posting. You all know that I like to wander but I did not think that my pictures should just wander around and show up in whichever posting they wanted to. My postings and pictures should stay where they're put instead of floating around on their own, with no sense of direction.

And this can sometimes be another hinderance when doing handwork . . . . . . but an entertaining hinderance . . . . {gg} . . . . . . The 'blogspot gremlins' are at it again . . . . :( . . . . I uploaded two pictures to go along with that last sentence and they have not appeared here. So, I'm posting this anyway, as is.

Sock contest

I just found out yesterday that Jane was having a "Show Me Your Socks" contest and anyone was eligible to enter. Of course you did require handmade socks to enter. I'm wondering if I'll be accepted or thrown out on my ear as I don't have quite a completed pair. Being a late starter in the sock knitting department this year, I didn't have any available. Alas! So I'll post the picture of what has been accomplished so far and let the chips fall where they may . . . . I do add an extra nylon yarn in the heel and toe for added strength to the camo yarn which is 100% Virgin Orlon Acrylic Fiber Red Heart from Coats & Clark. Now I'm wondering if, when Shel puts these socks on, we'll be able to still see his feet?! {g}
