Swinging

I love to swing and now that the sun has arrived and will be around for a while yet I should get a fair chance at spending some time in my new blue and white hammock chair that DH and I purchased at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO last month. It's quite neat although Dream hasn't decided yet just how 'neat' it is. She's not all that keen on swinging but would rather bask in the sun on a pillow on the verhandah floor. I guess she's not a 'swinger.' {g} It brings back some happy memories for me as I spent many hours in the canvas hammock in my grandparent's backyard. It was quite convenient too as I could make a small detour and get in a quick swing while going to the store or Post Office for Mom as my grandparent's home was along the way. I wonder if any of my younger cousins reading this remember the hammock in Nana and Papa's backyard?

Another Poem

By now I'm sure that everyone has ascertained that I love poetry. Here is one that I wrote early in the day as the rains continued to fall last week.

Raining again . . .
So I checked out a leaf
Lifted the edge
And peeked underneath.

Do you think what I saw
Was really a surprise . . .
As I blinked and refocused on
What met my eyes?

There, swinging on silvery latches and limbs,
Was a big old black spider
Sporting the most 'enchanting' grin.

"Hello," said he.

"Good morning," said I.
"What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for flies."

I don't think that I'll be remembered in the future for that one. Still, they're fun to do occasionally. Maybe that's what all those spiders are doing on those crazy quilts . . . . . . they're on 'fly catching duty' for the quilt owners. The one and only spider that I've done on a block is affectionately known as the 'square bottomed spider.' :-)

The Sun has found us!

Finally! It has arrived! It showed up yesterday and was very welcomed. Ironic how the energy level increases when the sun shines isn't it? As the sun smiles down upon us who can help but smile back? :-)

A while ago I shared a poem with some friends which I like quite well. Here it is for the rest of you, and them again, should they wish to read it.

Sometimes, in the magic hush
Of a Summer morning,
When it's very, very early,
And all is calm and still,
When the dew shines bright as diamonds
On petals newly opened,
And the sun, on rosy-golden wings,
Illuminates the hill.

It only lasts a little while,
But there's a sense of wonder,
A gentle peace that comes before
The clamour of the day,
And in those precious moments,
In the quiet of the garden,
Something very beautiful
Seems but a step away.

Another day on the farm . . .

Light drizzle . . . in other words, we're soggy here yet again. Oh, this is depressing, so later I'll dig through my fabric and embellishments for crazy quilting. That will bring a smile to my face. :-) Must remember to find that Nova Scotia Tartan I have stashed away. I really have to get busy on the CQheart promised to Ulla in Sweden many moons ago. Then it's time to concentrate on those UFOs, right? Right! Digging in storage bins and doing some handwork should keep the body moving enough that rust developing from the soggy weather won't gather too quickly and cause a 'total work stoppage.' My Dream is safely under an afghan here on the loveseat beside me. She most likely is considering how she might do a reversal of that Basenji stowaway of long ago and make her own way back to Africa and the heat that Basenjis love to bask in. In the meantime, as her devoted slave, I will keep her warm and dry with a supply of blankies always handy. I've heard a few birds singing this morning . . . the dear, brave souls . . . but none have appeared. Not a crow or even a seagull has flown overhead. The hummingbird feeder sits alone there suction-cupped to the dining area window. Perhaps there will be some activity later in the day. Earlier this spring we had a groundhog staying in the corner of our stonewall near the garage but he left either before or during the big rains of May and we haven't seen him since. He was doing too much of a demolition job to our stonewall and he never once offered to replace any of the stones he shoved out into the driveway, so Good Riddance I say! Besides, we didn't need any extra vet bills brought to us via fights between him and the dogs here.

Monday morning

Well, as you can see, I did make it back after wandering through the countryside with DH last evening (it was he who called me away as I was just in the middle of my very first posting to this blog). We had a lovely drive as we watched for deer and any late spring blooms which might have appeared despite the heavy rains of last month and lack of sunshine since. Neither of us are regretful that we were fortunate enough to spend most of the month of May visiting with dear friends in MO where the sun appeared, without fail, each and every day. Don't get me wrong . . . we love our native land; but the last two years Nova Scotia has experienced less than desireable weather during May, which made it perfect timing for travelling out of province.

So the blog has begun . . . . Perhaps pictures will appear here later but first I have to figure all that out. As for the title of this blog, it is a line from a poem by J. R. R. Tolkien in the book The Lord of the Rings . . . The Fellowship of the Ring. I have not read the books myself, but my DD who has read them all, brings me the poems to read. This one is a favourite of mine.

Take care . . .

First Posting

I've only just arrived and have already been called off to wander elsewhere; however, I will be back. :-)
